Last year was unusual to say the least, and the first half of 2021 hasn't been very different, with tech conferences, events, and lavish product launches all canceled (or virtualized) until further notice due to a raging global pandemic.

Still, the smartphone industry has chugged on, delivering some awesome products with slightly less fanfare than unusual. Having launched four new flagships in late 2020, Apple was completely absent from smartphone headlines in the first half of 2021, but Android makers delivered some of their best devices yet.

You know when your friend says they're five minutes away, but you somehow KNOW, deep down, that they just woke up from a nap and are still frantically running around their house, at least 30 minutes away?

I have no advice for how to make your friends more prompt, but I do have advice for how to confirm those suspicions: Make your friends turn their locations on if they have iPhones. This way, you can send them a screenshot of their little dot sitting at home and call them out on their whereabouts immediately. You can also use the location feature to plan around their delays. QAnon isn't about Q, and 6 other things we learned from 'The Storm is Upon Us'

If you're feeling Q'd out, you're not alone.

I, for one, would have been happy to leave my reading about the pro-Trump online conspiracy theory QAnon back in the Trump era. Despite the best efforts of its murder-minded followers who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, Joe Biden was inaugurated. We've clawed back a hard-won sense of normalcy. Don't we deserve a break before reexamining one of the most triggering sources of PTSD from the last four years?

Of course we do, and it would be nice to believe the columnist who claimed this month that QAnon is dead because its hopes for Trump's reinstatement haven't come to pass, and because its leader, the mysterious Q, has gone silent. But failed predictions and Q's silences have never hampered the growth of this movement before. We were reminded of this Tuesday with the publication of The Storm Is Upon Us: How QAnon Became a Movement, Cult, and Conspiracy Theory of Everything, the first real history of QAnon, by journalist and conspiracy expert Mike Rothschild. Apple TV+ free trial with new devices cut down to 3 months

Apple has decided to offer a less generous free trial for Apple TV+ with the purchase of a new Apple device.

Currently, purchasing a new Apple device such as an Apple TV 4K includes a year of free access to the TV+ service. However, as The Verge reports, that changes on July 1. Hidden in the small print of the Apple TV 4K product page it's stated that, "Eligible devices activated July 1, 2021 or later will qualify for offers of 3 months free Apple TV+. Eligible devices activated on June 30, 2021 or earlier will qualify for offers of 12 months free Apple TV+. $4.99/month after free trial."

As Apple TV+ costs $4.99 per month, activating a new device before July 1 will save you $44.91 over the first year of streaming. So if you were planning to purchase an Apple device to stream TV+, it's definitely worth buying and activating it in the next nine days to take advantage of the year of free access. Read more...
