Apple has now added China's Alipay as a payment method for iTunes.

According to local reports, Apple's latest iOS 10.1.1 update quietly added Alibaba's digital wallet to its payment options.

This means users will be able to pay for apps, movies and music all with their Alipay accounts.

The move comes after it was revealed China's now the world's largest iOS app spender, overtaking the U.S., which had held on to the number one spot for years.

Until now, most people in China would have added their China UnionPay credit cards to their iTunes account, but with Alipay having the virtual monopoly over China's digital payments, it's clear that Apple is hoping to make it even easier for people to spend some cash on the App Store. Read more...

If you live in Outback Australia, your much-needed heart transplant could one day arrive by drone.

A new consortium hopes to find a role for the unmanned flying machines in delivering urgent medical supplies to remote communities.

The Australian RPAS Consortium (ARC), made up of eight groups with interests in the hardware, security and legal aspects of drones, including UAS International and the University of Sydney, launched its Angel Drone project Friday.

First up, they plan to trial a drone able to carry blood samples, president of the group, Ron Bartsch, told Mashable. "We've got a specifically developed medi-drone that has got an [incubator] in it, which ensures the blood is kept at the right temperatures and conditions," he said. Read more...

SEOUL, South Korea — The auto industry has struggled with finding an efficient and safe way to operate digital interfaces in cars. While we've seen prototypes of great-looking HUDs (heads-up displays) in high-end vehicles from makers like BMW and Tesla, this preview of a mass market dashboard display offers a peek into what everyone can look forward to in the near future.

Seoul-based startup VTouch has been supplying its gesture-based interactive displays for the past few years. Its tech uses eye and finger tracking with a 3D camera to allow users to do stuff like point at a light to turn it on, or wave at a large outdoor display to control it. Read more...

Stunning new drone footage offers sneak peek at Apple's 'Spaceship' campus

If you've always wondered what it's like to work at Apple, there's new fodder for your imagination.

Thanks to drone footage from Matthew Roberts and Duncan Sinfield, you can get a closer look at the makings of Apple's highly anticipated "Spaceship" campus.

The Cupertino campus was first announced in 2011 by Steve Jobs himself. The plans now include solar panels that will generate about 75 percent of the facility's energy needs and an underground car garage for 11,000 cars, with 300 car charging stations.

The Apple mini-city will also include an underground auditorium, a garden, a pond, outdoor dining and a massive fitness center. Read more...

Nobody should buy the new 13-inch MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar

Apple's MacBook Pro event last Thursday was going well — as well as making a Touch Bar sound exciting could go — until Phil Schiller, the company's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, announced a low-end 13-inch MacBook Pro with a regular row of function keys for its "other customers" (his words) who would normally choose a MacBook Air.

It was a confusing product announcement made worse when he announced its $1,499 price tag. The laptop makes no sense in Apple's lineup except to fill a price point gap between the $999 13-inch MacBook Air and the $1,799 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Read more...

Moments before unveiling the new, snazzy, Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pros at a company event last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said a sentence that likely instilled hope in the heart of many an Apple fan.

"The Mac is so incredibly important to us," he said.

He didn't say "MacBook Pro," — a machine that got thoroughly updated that day — he said "Mac," which means all the Mac product lines — the iMac, the Mac Mini, the MacBook, the Mac Pro.

Remember the Mac Pro? The odd-shaped powerhouse that's essentially the pinnacle of Apple's computer lineup, the desktop machine for professionals who truly need the best hardware and the latest specs? If you don't, I can't blame you. The new Mac Pro was announced in June 2013; it hit the stores in December that same year and was never updated since.  Read more...
