Ariana Grande has another accomplishment to add to her ever-growing list: breaking YouTube.
The pop singer dropped the much anticipated music video for her hit song "thank you, next" on Nov. 30, and in the process managed to overload the online video platform. Well, her devoted and passionate fanbase did, anyway.
That's right, according to YouTube, the service was unable to handle the barrage of comments on the video after it went live — prompting someone at YouTube to compare "thank you, next" to another famous internet moment.

Technology companies need to stop putting profits and growth over the safety and security of their customers. “Technology is advancing at a speed and volume that exceeds the capacity of most people to comprehend the accompanying risks, let alone to protect against them,” Rosenstein said in his speech.

Shortly after, Israeli police arrested him on suspicions that he was planning an attack, because the caption of his post read "attack them."
Except that it didn't. The real caption of the post was "good morning" in Arabic. But for some unknown reason, Facebook's artificial intelligence-powered translation service translated the text to "hurt them" in English or "attack them" in Hebrew. The Israeli Defense Force uses Facebook's automated translation to monitor the accounts of Palestinian users for possible threats. In this case, they trusted Facebook's AI enough not to have the post checked by an Arabic-speaking officer before making the arrest. Read more...
