I tried a self-driving car in London and lived to tell the tale

Just a few metres into my journey in Nissan's LEAF electric car, the autonomous vehicle swerved towards the kerb. 

It wasn't exactly the start I was expecting. 

But to be fair to Nissan, my driving companion, Tetsuya Iijima, Nissan's Manager of Autonomous Drive Technology, quickly placed his hands on the steering wheel and took over the car instantaneously.

It was a minor glitch due to a disconnected wire with the computer in the car's boot. If anything it showed how swiftly the driver can override the vehicle and Nissan immediately provided another LEAF car, modified for self-driving.  Read more...

Your reports of Twitter abuse will no longer disappear into the ether

Another day, another string of Twitter updates aimed at curbing abuse and harassment. 

The company just detailed a new set of changes to reduce harassment on its platform. Among them: users who report abusive tweets and accounts will finally get some feedback on their reports.

That feedback will take two forms: users will first see a notification confirming their report is received, then they'll see a followup notification if Twitter decided to take action as a result of their report. If Twitter doesn't take action, you won't see an additional update after your report is received.  Read more...

'India's Spotify' launches artist originals to take on Apple Music

The audio and music streaming landscape in India is heating up. Slowly yet surely. 

Saavn, termed "India's Spotify" by Billboard, just rolled out its Artist Originals (AO) program that will conceptualize, produce and distribute new music with independent artists from India and South Asia.

The AO program boosts Saavn's original programming such as podcasts and audio shows. It's touted as giving creative opportunities to India's underground artists, and it aligns with the founder's vision of moving away from "a music-only product to an entertainment platform."  Read more...

A Snapchat drone?! Here's what we know

Snap Inc. has been playing with dronesThe New York Times reported Tuesday that the company has worked on building its own drones, citing three people "briefed on the project who asked to remain anonymous because the details are confidential."

The piece doesn't get into details, but the premise is intriguing — and not at all surprising for a company that defines itself as a "camera company" in its own mission. 

"Snap is a camera company.
