Apple could become the latest brand to get its smartphones manufactured in India.
The Cupertino-based company is in discussion with the Indian government about the possibility of manufacturing its products in India, according to WSJ, which cites unnamed senior government officials.
The iPhone maker sent a letter to the government last month in which it outlined how it would assemble its products in India and sought financial incentives from the government, the report adds.
Assembling iPhones in India is crucial for Apple if the company wants to make its products available to the Indian market at lower price. The Indian government currently imposes heavy taxes on electronic products like smartphones imported to India to encourage local production. Read more...
