You may soon be able to send a text message from a Chromebook

If you have a Chromebook, you no longer have an excuse to ignore your friends' texts. Android 8.1 includes a new "SMS Connect" feature that will allow you to send and receive text messages on your computer. 

The feature is an APK, which you may be able to launch and set up via an activity browser. You may also need to enable it on Chrome, by typing "chrome://flags" into your address bar and turning on "Enable Multidevice features." 

The operative word here is "may." This new feature was first spotted on a developer preview of Android 8.1 by Ars Technica and Chrome Unboxed, neither of whom could get it to work. Read more...
