Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't see. 

Allow us to explain: Online retailers like Amazon and Walmart will sometimes do this thing where they make you add an item to your shopping cart in order to see its price. It seems gimmicky, but it's actually their way of giving you a really good bargain.

Retailers use this tactic to skirt the manufacturer's minimum advertised price, or MAP, which is the lowest price the item is allowed to be advertised by authorized sellers. (Enforcing a MAP is a way for the manufacturer to maintain the product's value.) By removing an item's price from its product listing — i.e., not advertising it — and forcing you to hunt it down for yourself, a retailer is able to charge you less than that minimum.
