This Kickstarter project is about to make mopping a hands free-job
Just to let you know, if you buy something featured here, Mashable might earn an affiliate commission.
Out of all the household chores you can do, mopping may be the most worst — it's boring, it hurts your back, and moving furniture to clean underneath? It's a no from me.
Some engineers realized how time consuming and tedious of a job this can be and created an insanely cool solution via Kickstarter: meet Everybot, the ultimate robot mop cleaner.
We've seen numerous autonomous smart vacuum cleaners, but a smart mop that freely roams your home and gives your floors the wet scrub they need? Game changer. Read more...

Passenger Drone is a futuristic aircraft that has actually flown with passengers IRL
We've seen multiple flying car self-flying electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) concepts lately, as short air travel has been tabbed as a next-gen solution for urban transportation issues. But many of those crafts are still in the early design stages.
The latest company to debut its designs for a flying machine is Passenger Drone, which emerged from a three-year-long stealth mode to show off its two-seater prototype. The craft is slightly bigger than a small car and boasts 16 individual electric engines and rotors for zero-emissions air travel.
The start-up has an edge on some of its bigger and better-known competitors, which include established companies like Airbus and Uber. Unlike many other VTOL designs, Passenger Drone has lived up to its name, showing off footage of test flights with human passengers. Read more...

HOPii is an all-in-one personal brewery that fits on your countertop

Hey, craft beer fans: unless you're drinking fresh from the tank you don't actually know what true craft beer is supposed to taste like. At least not according to Chris Shelton, Master Brewer at HOPii. He says that the bottling and distribution process introduces the three biggest beer-killers — oxygen, light, and uneven temperature — diminishing the quality of the beer you pick up in the store or order on draft at the pub.

This smartphone magnifier can make you feel like you're watching a mini TV
Just to let you know, if you buy something featured here, Mashable might earn an affiliate commission.
Streaming movies and TV shows on your phone is probably the most convenient thing ever — until you realize you're squinting to follow along.
Good news: you can now turn your smartphone videos into blown-up retro masterpieces on this smartphone magnifier.
This rad mini TV takes whatever you're watching and blows it up to two times its original size and displays it on an eight inch screen. But it isn't your average monochrome, boring flatscreen —this smartphone magnifier is the cutest recreation of a vintage television, featuring the old-school box shape and faux wood exterior. (Don't worry, your stuff will still play in color — that's one retro thing we couldn't budge with.) Read more...

There’s no doubt you’ve seen at least a few Instagram or Facebook posts that show off a collection of well-balanced, beautifully arranged meals for the week. Meal prepping is an art — as evidenced by the fact that it’s all over your feed.

Guessing your Android unlock pattern is way too easy
Android unlock patterns might be fun to use, but they're not that secure.
A recent study from the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County revealed that it's incredibly easy to figure out someone's passcode pattern just by peeking over their shoulder ("shoulder surfing") while they enter it.
The researchers recruited almost two thousand subjects to watch over-the-shoulder videos of pattern and PIN unlocking, and attempt to reproduce each.
The researchers found that attackers were able to successfully enter another user's phone after just one observation in a whopping 64.2 percent of cases when using a pattern. PINs weren't foolproof, but were still safer, with a single observation only 10.8 percent likely to lead to a successful attack. Read more...

Google is building competitor to the Amazon Echo Show, says report
Google is developing a clandestine home device to compete with the Amazon Echo Show, according to a new TechCrunch report. The device is supposedly codenamed "Manhattan."
Google's forthcoming home device is reportedly similar to the Echo Show, in screen size and capability. In case you didn't already know, the Echo Show is a tabletop smart device that incorporates Amazon's intelligent personal assistant, Alexa, allows for video calling, and plays music through some pretty good Dolby speakers.
According to TechCrunch's sources, the Google home gadget will offer Google's version of similar features, such as Google Assistant and video calling. One important difference, however, is that Google's "Manhattan" would be able to play YouTube videos, a feature that Google just pulled access to from the Amazon's Echo Show. Read more...

This may be the smartest $99 ball you'll ever own
Remember when we just played catch?
Those were good, simpler times. Of course, we put aside our footballs and super bouncy balls for virtual ones on our smart phones and, in the process, life got a little less active and, maybe, a little less interesting.
Perhaps the best ways to reintroduce inflatable balls to playtime is to make them as smart as the balls on your iPhone screen. Better yet, put some of the same technology you find in your iPhone inside an inflatable ball.
That's the basic concept behind the Play Impossible Gameball. Sure, it's an odd and long name for such a simple-looking toy, but, to be fair, some of what this ball can do does seem a little impossible. Read more...

How to become an urban farmer from the comfort of your kitchen
Just to let you know, if you buy something featured here, Mashable might earn an affiliate commission.
Organic food has never been more popular, with traditional grocery stores upping their organic game and Amazon getting in on the action with their Whole Foods buyout. If you truly want to know where your food comes from though, you need to grow it yourself.
For those of us without the time or space necessary to build a backyard farm, there are plenty of kits and devices out there that allow plants to practically grow themselves — and they all fit nicely on a kitchen counter.

New study finds small percentage of Macs are running insecure firmware
If you own a Mac and haven't upgraded to the new High Sierra OS, your system could be vulnerable to threats like Thunderstrike, a malware attack that enters through your computer's Thunderbolt port.
Researchers from Duo Security published a white paper today explaining the potential issues, which was first noticed by 9to5Mac. The firm analyzed 73,324 Mac computers and found that, on average, 4.2 percent of them weren't running the proper firmware, leaving the systems vulnerable to cyber attacks. Luckily for consumers, the vulnerabilities aren't thought to be as risky for home users according to a Duo blog post summarizing the paper — but you should still be sure you're running the right firmware. FAA just banned drones from flying near national landmarks
The National Park Service prohibited drone flying inside its parks in 2014. Now, the federal government is banning drones from even getting near 10 specific landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore.
On Thursday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it will "restrict drone flights up to 400 feet" from the boundaries of this varied collection of national park monuments, historical parks, memorials, and other places such as dams. The new restrictions go into effect on Oct. 5, and the complete list can be found here.

Keep tabs on loved ones at all times with this Harry Potter-esque clock
Just to let you know, if you buy something featured here, Mashable might earn an affiliate commission.
Molly Weasley is #goals for so many reasons, not the least of which is her (sometimes overbearing) dedication to her family. Just because you're a muggle, though, doesn't mean you can't be the magical matriarch of your own brood by keeping tabs on them the way Molly does — with this gorgeous "clock."
Created by a husband and wife team of MIT-trained engineers, the Eta Clock doesn't tell time — it uses GPS technology to keep track of your household. The clock, currently being funded on Kickstarter, is paired with an app where users can input addresses for the places they visit most. Each hand is assigned to a member of your family, and takes GPS data from the app to move the hand to that person's location. It's not magic, it's science. Read more...

Your smartphone camera may pack a lot of megapixels into a pocket-sized package, but when it comes to keeping up with your adventures, it often falls short.
