Samsung Unveils 120-Inch, 130-Inch Ultra Short Throw Projectors

Projectors can often provide the most appealing cinematic experience, but few rooms are set up to accommodate one without compromises that would defeat the purpose. After all, you don’t want people walking through the projector’s path every time someone gets up for a snack. Ultra short throw projectors can fit into more spaces, but they tend to lack the features of more traditional designs. The latest projectors from Samsung, however, offer larger projections and even HDR support.

Naturally, both the LSP9T and the LSP7T models support 4K resolution. The LSP9T has a maximum 130-inch projection size (measured diagonally), and the LSP7T is just a bit smaller at 120 inches. The devices are compact boxes that you can set right next to a wall or screen in the same place you might otherwise place a TV.

You won’t have to mount them to the ceiling or elevate them at the back of the room like an old-fashioned projector. The projector can create an image on the wall just a few inches away without distortion. The larger LSP9T also has HDR10+ certification, making it the first projector with that distinction.

If you’ve ever wanted to take a break from painting to look at art on a projector, this is apparently the product for you.

While the ultra short throw design will help in many spaces, the quality of your viewing experience will depend on several factors that wouldn’t apply to a regular TV. For one, you need a flat wall space with the right reflectivity or a screen. Ambient light also has to be at a minimum to make the image sufficiently visible. All the added contrast and colors from that fancy HDR certification won’t matter if you’re trying to use this device in a room with excessive ambient light.

Samsung says the LSP9T and LSP7T will be available this holiday season. It has not, however, released pricing. Even smaller ultra short throw projectors are spendy, so it wouldn’t be unthinkable to see these devices go for a few thousand dollars.
