These heroes tried to cook a pie by sending it to 'space'

Human beings have sent all sort of things into space, from Luke Skywalker's lightsaber to Lego mini-figures of Galileo and the Roman deities Jupiter and Juno, or even a pizza. 

Now it's the turn of a meat and potato pie, to boldly go where no pie has gone before. Well, sort of. 

Ahead of the World Pie Eating Championships, the tasty pastry was launched into the stratosphere from Wigan, north-west England.
