Apple to use OLED for all iPhones in 2019, report claims

Apple is about to ditch LCD and use OLED screens for its entire 2019 iPhone lineup, a new report from ET News (via MacRumors) claims, quoting several unnamed Apple officials. 

Right now, the Cupertino phone maker only has an OLED screen in its top-of-the-range iPhone X model, while iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a cheaper, LCD screen. 

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhone models this year, but only two of them are expected to have an OLED screen; the third, cheaper model is likely to have an LCD screen. 

The outlet did not offer many more details, and the rumor is not entirely new, but it has already caused a sharp drop in the stock price of Japan Display, which is one of the main suppliers of LCD screens for Apple's iPhones. Currently, Apple buys OLED screens for its iPhone X from Samsung, but reports earlier this year claimed that LG will supply OLED screens for at least one new iPhone model.  Read more...
