Google's moonshots appear not so crazy now as company proves its worth beyond mobile ads

Search, clicks and views aren't everything for Google anymore. 

Alphabet, the technology giant formerly known as Google, still makes majority of its revenue from ads, but it's starting to build big gains elsewhere.

Alphabet reported on Thursday a 62 percent increase from the year prior in "other revenue," which includes hardware sales. Overall, revenue was up 22 percent year over year. 

Google is still winning in the ad department, despite fake news sites being purged from using its ad service. It brought in $22.4 billion in ad revenue (out of a total of $26.1 billion across the company) for the fourth quarter of 2016.  Read more...
